On May 2, Mesa Police and Mesa Fire and Medical units responded to 546 S. Country Club regarding smoke in a residence, according to the Mesa Police Department.
Today, officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation and all preliminary observations lead them to believe this is not a criminal investigation, said Mesa Police Department spokesperson Nikolas Rasheta. The female victim was a resident of the apartment and has been identified as 29-year-old Jazmine Bridges, he said. The male victim was her 4-year-old son Keyron Goins. Both appear to have been sleeping in the bedroom when the tragedy occurred, Rasheta said.
Mesa Fire and Medical units made entry into the residence and determined the source of the smoke was a nearly extinguished fire inside one of the bedrooms, police officials said.
