Since 1974, Area Agency on Aging has been planning, developing, coordinating and delivering nearly 50 critical services to older adults and their caregivers, adults age 18-plus with physical disabilities and long-term care needs, adults with HIV, residents in long term care facilities, and survivors of late-life domestic violence and elder abuse in Maricopa County.
The agency develops new and innovative programs in response to unmet needs throughout the Valley to provide support for older adults to remain active and age in their communities with dignity.
Now, the agency has published its updated Elder Resource Guide, a directory with information about public and private organizations that provide assistance to older adults (60 and over), families, caregivers and professionals in Maricopa County.
The 100-plus page directory, in both English and Spanish, is divided into 36 easy-to-navigate categories in alphabetical order from Adaptive Aids and Equipment, Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse to Employment and Job Training, Financial Assistance, HIV and AIDS, Home Modification, Home Repair, Hospice, Long-Term Care, Meals to Pet Care and Companion Animals, Respite Care, Self-Help and Support Groups and Senior Centers, among others.
“The Elder Resource Guide is a comprehensive resource with hundreds of options to meet the expanding needs of the 90,000 individuals we serve every year,” said Area Agency on Aging President and CEO Mary Lynn Kasunic. “At the same time, we also offer a range of additional support services to help individuals determine what resources they may need and help them connect directly to those services. And, we’re always available through our 24-hour Senior HELP LINE.”
The 24-hour Senior HELP LINE (602-264-4357) responds to more than 40,000 callers a year.
The Area Agency on Aging recently launched AGEconnect, a new private-pay program to help older adults and their caregivers explore options, formulate a plan and navigate systems with a goal to keep older adults in their homes for as long as possible. AGEconnect begins with a comprehensive in-home discussion of the individual’s current status and ongoing needs which leads to a detailed plan based on those needs and follow-up and support.
