The Brophy boys soccer program has been the premier program in Arizona and it appears the Broncos are the class of the 2017-18 season.
Brophy, which is ranked No. 3 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer, were the unanimous No. 1 choice on the 10 ballots cast by the 6A Conference coaches. The Broncos have sailed through the schedule so far other than a 2-1 overtime win over Pinnacle.
“Their quality throughout will continue to suit them well as the season progresses,” one coach said.
The rest of the top 10 is a little less certain as No. 2 Chandler was No. 5 last week, while No. 4 Desert Mountain wasn’t ranked in the initial poll.
Teams fourth through eight are separated by just eight votes so there probably continue to be plenty of movement for the weeks to come.
Locally, only Mesa garnered a vote as the Jackrabbits dropped from eighth place to ninth place after a decent showing at the Coyote Classic at Campo Verde.
Some of the comments included Chandler being called “well coached and disciplined,” while Corona is “very sharp again this year, even after losing some key pieces from last year.”
One team that might be on the rise is Westview, which didn’t make the top 10, but “they’re going to win some quality games and may upset some teams going forward.”
Here is a look at how the second week of votes by the coaches came together:
