UPDATE: Cactus Fire fully contained in east Mesa

The Cactus Fire in the Tonto National Forest in east Mesa along the Salt River has been fully contained, officials said. They continue cleaning up certain areas after the brush fire engulfed 818 acres.

Wild horses in the area are all OK and one even gave birth during the brush fire that started a week ago. No Mesa homes or structures were damaged.

The cause of the brush fire is still under investigation, but authorities said it was human caused.

  1. Glad it’s moving NE as wife and I live barely to the SW and there are homes even to the SE of the fire. There was ash on our cars this morning when wife left for work at 6am.
