Recently, Sally Harrison and Claudia Walters were the recipients of the Ross N. Farnsworth Spirit of Mesa award. Harrison is the president and CEO of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce.
The Spirit of Mesa award is given out each year by the Mesa United Way to someone who exemplifies the spirit and mission of Mesa United Way and has made an exceptional effort for the community. The award is not for a specific service or donation to Mesa United Way but is more in the category of a lifetime achievement award, Mesa United Way officials said.
“This city is a better place for the business community and for the residents because of the love and dedication Sally has for her job as president and CEO of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce and the city she calls home,” said Mark Young, president/CEO of the Mesa United Way. “Sally has a servant’s heart and you can see it in all she does in the community.”
Even Sen. John McCain made a video to congratulate Harrison. He said: “Throughout her career, Sally has been a dedicated champion and hero of service members and families throughout the East Valley…”
Harrison was both humbled and honored by the recognition.
“It is truly an honor to be awarded the Mesa United Way Spirit of Mesa award alongside my friend, Claudia Walters,” Harrison said. “I’m humbled to think I would be chosen for such an important recognition. I do love Mesa, so this award is extra special.”
