The idea came out of lack of knowledge and a nudge from a coach.

Start a coaches poll.

Instead of trying to fudge some faux knowledge on all of the boys basketball teams in the 6A Conference have the coaches use their true knowledge to come up with a legitimate poll.

The response for the first one is lighter than hoped, but a good start in getting a feel for what teams should be considered contenders as they enter week three of competition.

Three local teams made the cut as Mesa, Red Mountain and Mountain View are all in the top 10.

Some of the coaches had corresponding comments to go along with the rankings including one about Red Mountain.

“Red Mountain will surprise a bunch of teams with a two-headed monster of (Timmy) Allen and (Andre) Harris.”

Here are some others:

“Desert Vista is no surprise. If DV figures out how to play together, they will be hard to beat.”

“Pinnacle has suffered several injuries early this season, but if they are healthy, they will be hard to beat.”

“Brophy’s (Ian) Burke and (Jaxson) Baker are a tough combo.”

“Mountain Pointe could be a surprise team. They have a new coach with a great group of returning players that play very hard and that are very skilled.”

Without further ado, here are initial rankings at MyNewsMesa.com by the 6A boys basketball coaches:
