The idea came out of lack of knowledge and a nudge from a coach.
Start a coaches poll.
Instead of trying to fudge some faux knowledge on all of the girls basketball teams in the 6A Conference, we’ll have the coaches use their true knowledge to come up with a legitimate poll.
The response for the first one is lighter than we had hoped, but a good start in getting a feel for what teams should be considered contenders as they enter week three of competition.
One thing is clear Valley Vista is the favorite after being a unanimous choice at No. 1, while Red Mountain is the only local program to garner votes to come in at No. 9.
Some of the coaches had corresponding comments to go along with the rankings including one about Red Mountain.
“They return core from last year, good guard play and solid team.”
Here are some of the other comments:
“Valley Vista returns top three guards, and reigning 6A MVP Taylor Chavez.”
“Millennium has the potential to bump higher, but will be without Ali Zelaya for a while.”
“Perry freshman Madison Conner appears to be the ‘real deal,’ leading this team to a big win over Hamilton.”
“Highland coach Miner Webster, to no surprise, has his team playing solid basketball.”
