A last-second search for a boys soccer coach at Westwood led to Ryan Corea becoming the Warriors head coach.

Corea is a Red Mountain graduate and a sixth-grade teacher at Kerr Elementary.

He has coached on the club circuit and at Carson Junior High the last few years.

“I am really excited he is on board and think he will do some great work here at Westwood,” Warriors athletic director Richard Long said.

The timing of the hiring is a set back considering tryouts were the week of Oct. 31 and comes less than two weeks before the start of the regular season after a “sudden occurrence” led to Ladislav Zbozinek no longer being the coach.
