FirstBank, the third largest privately held bank in the nation with 18 branches in Arizona (four located in Mesa), announced the results of its annual community investment program. As of June 30, FirstBank has donated more than $2.1 million to nonprofit organizations across Arizona, Colorado and California, bringing its charitable donation total to $55 million since 2000.
“Our commitment to charitable giving is a key part of our business philosophy,” said John Ikard, CEO of FirstBank. “We believe nonprofits play an essential role in advancing the communities we live and work in, and we’re dedicated to supporting them.”
FirstBank’s charitable contributions are grounded in several categories, including affordable housing, education and economic development. Its expansive giving approach benefits more than 450 nonprofits annually.
“Being an active part of the community is extremely important to FirstBank, which explains why we have ‘match’ programs that encourage our employees to personally help our communities as they see fit,” said Bryce Lloyd, president – Phoenix Metro at FirstBank. “We also make special contributions to local causes and non-profits throughout the year, and it’s no accident that many of those donations are to the same organizations where our employees serve as volunteers and as board members.”
In its short nine-year history in Arizona, FirstBank has already originated more than $1.2 billion in loans within the state and has repeatedly shown its commitment to community involvement as a presenting sponsor of Arizona Gives Day, which raised nearly $3 million for more than 750 Arizona nonprofits in one day.
Most recently, FirstBank donated $100,000 to Catholic Education Arizona, an organization that makes private education more affordable and accessible to low income students. In 2015, FirstBank announced a $1 million community development investment with Trellis (formerly Neighborhood Housing Services of Phoenix), an organization dedicated to making financially stable homes, neighborhoods and communities possible in Maricopa County. FirstBank’s contribution will provide qualified homebuyers up to $25,000 to be used as a down payment toward the purchase of a new home.
