The bottom half of the 6A Conference football has a very heavy Mesa presence as three of the four area teams are in that portion of the half bracket.
Second-seeded Desert Ridge, seventh-seeded Red Mountain and No. 14 Mountain View are joined by No. 12 Skyline in the postseason, which gets underway Friday and goes for three straight weeks.
There will be an off week over Thanksgiving weekend after the semifinals and the title game will be played Dec. 2 at University of Arizona Stadium at 7 p.m.
Desert Ridge’s 9-1 campaign earned the Jaguars the second seed and will host No. 15 Westview (5-5).
“We know we put ourselves in a pretty good position,” Jaguars coach Jeremy Hathcock said after Friday’s win. “It’s one week at a time at this point.”
The oddity of the bracket is how the Jaguars missed out on the No. 1 seed to Mountain Pointe, which Desert Ridge beat 31-20 to be the region champion and have a better overall record.
Chandler (8-2) is the second seed and Perry (9-1) is the fourth seed.
Red Mountain enters the postseason with an eight-game win streak and looks to extend it to nine with a first-round win over No. 10 Horizon (7-3).
It sets up a possible quarterfinal clash between Red Mountain and Desert Ridge should the seeding hold true.
Skyline (6-4) takes on No. 5 Hamilton in a rematch from six weeks ago when the Huskies (7-3) won 27-17 at Skyline.
The Toros (6-4) travels to No. 3 Chandler, which is the No. 1 team in most media polls, with hopes of pulling off an upset.
