Red Mountain needed a win to secure a likely first-round playoff home game and had to do so with a depleted lineup.

The Mountain Lions had about 25 players players out with injury, suspension or they met their 10-game regular season limit, but still managed to beat Westwood 34-16 on the road Friday in a 6A Conference East Valley Region finale.

It was the eighth-straight win and gave Red Mountain (8-2) a 5-0 record in region play and 15-0 against East Valley opponents on all three levels.

“We have been coaching our butts off this week,” Red Mountain coach Mike Peterson said via text.

The Lions finished off the regular season with a win despite the shortened roster and rearranged depth chart against the Warriors (4-6, 1-3).

Senior Alejandro Lujan had four touchdowns and Jesus Vazquez had a pick six to help Red Mountain’s huge second half after leading 7-3 lead at half
