Humana, a local health and well-being company, is hosting a Vietnam Veterans Pinning and Proclamation Ceremony on March 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Mesa. Local Vietnam veterans are invited to participate in the ceremony.

The President and Congress established a federal program in 2012 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, and to thank and honor Vietnam veterans. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, 9 million Americans served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War; approximately 7 million are living today. For more on the program, visit www.vietnamwar50th.com.

To reach these large numbers, the Vietnam War Commemoration has enlisted the assistance of many thousands of Commemorative Partner organizations at the local, state and national levels to conduct pinning events and activities that recognize Vietnam veterans and their families in their local communities.

Humana is a Commemorative Partner and supports and salutes Vietnam veterans. Local Vietnam veterans interested in participating are asked to RSVP to ensure enough pins are available. To RSVP, or for more information, call the Humana Mesa location at 480-325-4707.

Area veterans organizations will have representatives on site for a free veterans health and service fair.

Humana is also hosting a toiletry drive that benefits the Arizona Housing Coalition, a collaborative association that leads in the efforts to end homelessness and advocate for safe, affordable homes for Arizonans. The community is invited to drop off toiletries through the end of April at the Humana Mesa location, 5943 E. McKellips Road, Suite 106.

Humana officials say their neighborhood locations help close the gap between people and the care they need to live healthier, happier lives. By partnering with the community and offering a place for people to connect with others, share common interests, and participate in fitness classes, health and wellness seminars, and disease-specific education classes – at no cost – Humana is making it easy for people to achieve their best health. The Humana Mesa location also offers a host of free health and wellness activities and programs. The location is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
