On July 2, a male suspect rang the front doorbell to 2234 W. Edgewood Ave. Mesa police officials said upon receiving no reply, the suspect entered the backyard and broke out the rear arcadia door with an axe to gain access into the residence. The victim in the house heard the crash and grabbed her phone, and locked herself into the bathroom. The suspect then forced entry into the bathroom with the axe. The suspect confronted the victim while holding the axe and demanded cash/money. The suspect grabbed items and fled the residence, police said.
The victim called the Mesa Police Department and an investigation was initiated. Through the course of the investigation police said a 16-year-old juvenile suspect was identified as the person in the video surveillance and probable cause was developed to make an arrest. On July 6, Mesa police officers located and placed the suspect under arrest. They said he has been referred to the Juvenile Court for one count of ARS 1304A4 – kidnapping, ARS 13-1508A burglary (first degree), ARS 1904A1 armed robbery, ARS 13-1204A1 aggravated assault, and two counts of ARS 13-1506A1 burglary (third degree).
