Mesa District 2 Councilmember Jeremy Whittaker has been appointed to the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Federal Advocacy Committee for 2018, his first term on the committee. The appointment was announced by NLC president Mark Stodola, mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas. Whittaker joins District 4 Councilmember Chris Glover as Mesa representatives on the FAIR Committee.

The FAIR Committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving national economic policy, general financial assistance programs, liability insurance, intergovernmental relations, Census, municipal bonds and capital finance, municipal management, anti-trust issues, citizen participation and civil rights, labor relations, Native American sovereignty and municipal authority.

“The FAIR committee deals with a lot of topics that I have a great interest in,” Whittaker said. “I am looking forward to meeting with other leaders from around the United States, as well as my council colleague Chris Glover, and sharing ideas and strategies that will be a benefit to our citizens.”

The National League of Cities is the nation’s largest and most prestigious organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance.
