On Aug. 3, the Mesa Transportation Department will host a Regional School Crossing Guard Training workshop for the East Valley. The training is a part of a regional effort sponsored by Maricopa Association of Governments to improve the safety at school crossings for both crossing guards and students. School crossing guards from the cities of Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert and school districts throughout Maricopa County have been invited to attend. Providing education and training to all school crossing guards in the region is an essential step to ensure that both the guards and the children in their care stay safe.

Visuals of the day include:

  • Presentation from Mesa’s Fire and Medical Department on the health and welfare of crossing guards (9:10 a.m.)
  • Crossing guard demonstration (9:40 a.m.)
  • Police officers from Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert presenting traffic laws regarding crosswalks (11:10 a.m.)

The Aug. 3 training will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the Dobson High School auditorium, 1501 W. Guadalupe Road in Mesa.

Staff will be available to comment and equipment will be available for demonstration.
