The Mesa Police Department (MPD) will be out conducting DUI enforcement this weekend. The MPD traffic unit will continue its support of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) DUI Labor Day Task Force beginning Friday, Sept. 1 until Monday, Sept. 4. Emphasized hours will take place 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. (Friday, Saturday and Monday). Saturation patrol for Sunday will take place 1 to 8 p.m.
DUI Task Force, over the Labor Day weekend, is an annual local enforcement. Police say the mission is to remove impaired drivers off the roadway and create safer streets throughout the Valley. Also, to decrease the number of vehicle collisions related to impaired driving. Reducing these collisions directly correlated to an impaired driver will reduce the number of injuries and fatalities associated as well, police said.
The Mesa Police Department encourages everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend responsibly and designate a driver. They ask to report reckless, unsafe or suspected DUI driving to their non–emergency line: 480-644-2211.
