The Mesa Police Department released the following statement this afternoon in regards to an officer-involved shooting at approximately 11 a.m. this morning in the Monte Vista Trailer Park Community:
“This morning detectives from the Mesa Police Department were following up on a lead received by a citizen related to the nail salon stabbing homicide that occurred on Feb. 2. Information was learned about a adult male who lives in the Monte Vista Trailer Park Community who may have been involved in the homicide. Investigators gathered sufficient evidence to apprehend the 36-year-old male.
When police officers approached the subject, he advanced towards them while reaching for something in his waistband. Officers observed a knife in the suspect’s hands and deployed less lethal beanbag rounds. They were unsuccessful as the suspect continued to advance towards the officers. One of the officers was forced to discharge his duty weapon. Medical aid was immediately performed on the subject, however, he was pronounced deceased on scene.
Currently, investigators are actively working this investigation to confirm if the male subject is in fact the individual responsible for the nail salon homicide. This will take some time and information will be released when available.”
