At approximately 11:20 a.m. today, Oct. 4, Mesa police were dispatched to a family fight in progress at 557 N. Standage in Mesa.
Detective Nik Rasheta, a spokesperson for the Mesa Police Department, said an adult female was saying a known adult male was trying to kill her. She said he had a weapon. Rasheta said officers arrived on scene and observed the male subject in the backyard with a gun in his waistband.
“They attempted to give him verbal commands to get rid of the gun but he did not cooperate,” Rasheta said. “He exited the backyard and was saying he wanted to be shot. At that time he had his hand on the gun and refused verbal commands to put his hands up. After a few minutes of verbal commands to put his hands up, officers perceived a threat and shots were fired. The suspect was hit and has been transported to the hospital in serious condition. Detectives will remain on scene as this investigation continues to unfold.”
