This afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. Mesa police responded to a subject with a gun call at 1849 E. Nielson Ave.
Mesa Police Department officials said: “Witnesses reported a man walking in the street with a handgun and a rifle making incoherent statements while waving a gun around. Officers arrived and learned the suspect had gone into the residence. A perimeter was set up and SWAT officers arrived as the scene was secured. The suspect was observed at the front of the residence with the weapon posing a threat and shots were fired. The suspect retreated into the residence and within a few moments was observed at the back of the residence with a weapon posing a threat. A second shooting occurred, and the suspect retreated into the residence.”
Detective Nik Rasheta, a spokesperson for the Mesa Police Department said: “Officers were then able to observe the suspect inside and he appeared to be injured. He was contacted and detained with no further incident. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Weapons were located inside the residence and the scene has been secured and will be processed by detectives. The investigation is ongoing.”
