Over the holiday weekend, the Mesa Police Department (MPD) has announced it will be out conducting DUI enforcement. The MPD traffic unit will continue its support of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) DUI Cinco de Mayo Task Force beginning today, May 4 until Saturday, May 6, police said. Emphasized hours will take place from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night.
DUI Task Force, over the Cinco de Mayo period, is an annual local enforcement. The mission is to: remove impaired drivers off the roadway and create safer streets throughout the Valley. Also, decrease the number of vehicle collisions related to impaired driving. Reducing these collisions directly correlated to an impaired driver will reduce the number of injuries and fatalities associated as well, police said.
The Mesa Police Department encourages everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend responsibly and designate a driver. They ask residents to report reckless, unsafe or suspected DUI driving to local law enforcement. The Mesa Police Department non–emergency line is 480-644-2211.
