Tomorrow, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m. nine stylists are meeting at Charlie’s Salon and Spa, 2031 N. Power Road, Suite 110, near McKellips in Mesa, to groom and cut the hair of approximately 15 men from A New Leaf Men’s Shelter. The men will be transported from the shelter to the salon and the event will go as long as it takes to serve each one.
Zappone’s Italian restaurant is providing lunch starting at 11 am. There will be a vocalist who will be singing Christmas songs at the front throughout the event and they have some donations to give the shelter as well. Lee Tyau of local organic men’s grooming line, Wet Shaving Products, will be donating beard oil and aftershave to the men for the event and additional products for them to take with them afterwards.
Heather Wermuth, a stylist is the brains behind this endeavor, has a special place in her heart for the underdog. She believes that great potential and great worth live inside each and every human being and she loves being a part of the manifestation of it. She also believes in a world that is filled with so much division and judgement, it’s important to stand up and show that we all deserve to be touched, respected and treated with kindness and love, regardless of our failures, shortcomings, and differences.
“It as an honor to be able to serve these men who are struggling to survive,” Wermuth said. “It’s what Christmas is all about.”
A New Leaf Men’s Shelter provides roof, clothing, and food to 76 men at a time who are working and trying to rebuild their lives in Mesa.
