Babies born in February will have warm heads thanks to a donation of more than 300 knitted and crocheted red hats from Humana, a health and well-being company, to the American Heart Association. The donation is in honor of national Heart Month, which takes place each year in February.
The American Heart Association will provide the red hats to local hospitals who will distribute them to babies born in February. The red hats are meant to raise awareness of heart disease, the No. 1 killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country.
The red hats were knitted and crocheted by the Humana Charity Crafters, a group of mostly senior women who meet every Monday at the Humana neighborhood location in Mesa from 1 to 3 p.m. The knitting, crocheting and sewing group is open to anyone and all materials are provided by Humana.
The Humana Charity Crafters formed in 2009 with three ladies, and today has expanded to more than 15. To get involved, call the Humana location in Mesa at 480-325-4707.
