Monte Vista residents in Mesa are eagerly preparing for one of the most delicious days of the year: the Monte Vista Chili Cook Off to support Arizona Brainfood.
Tomorrow, Feb. 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. more than 250 people are expected to make their way to the courtyard at Monte Vista to fill up on chili, enjoy live music with friends and support a great cause. Each attendee will have the opportunity to test out multiple bowls of chili. They will then vote for their favorite to help crown the new reigning Monte Vista Chili Cook Off Champion.
While voting takes place attendees can enjoy their chili and entertainment. A few lucky attendees will even go home with one of over 20 prizes from the event’s raffle – ranging from gift cards to kitchenware to jewelry.
One-hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Arizona Brainfood, a Mesa nonprofit that provides backpacks of food to hungry school children on the weekends. About 65 percent of Mesa students are eligible for free or reduced lunch and many of these children have very little or no food to eat on the weekends. Monte Vista has held large annual fundraisers to support this organization for about six years, but this is the first chili cook off. The organizers of this year’s event are hopeful that they will raise even more than last year’s donation, which totaled $3,500.
Monte Vista Village Resort is located at 8865 E. Baseline Road in Mesa.
