New technology allows SRP customers to manage their bills, energy usage

Are you a Salt River Project (SRP) customer in Mesa seeking to budget your bill and have better control over your energy usage?

It’s very possible now with new technology and the installation of new SRP meters.

“People want more conveniences and control over their costs and they’re more environmentally aware,” said Jim Pratt, senior director of Grid Modernization Services for SRP. “Using smartphone technology today for things like controlling your thermostat is catching on.”

He told the September “Mesa Morning Live” audience that it’s easier to control or limit your energy consumption by just calling SRP and working with them on a monthly average bill. The result is learning to manage your bill and to better conserve energy.

“Our new meters know if your meter goes out and send warnings to the control center before you even realize it now,” Pratt said. “This means we are on it before you can even call in an outage. That’s how far our technology has come. We want people to take advantage of that.”

He said the key is to avoid using as much electricity as possible from 2 to 7 p.m. each day.
