Grammy-award winning disco funk group KC and the Sunshine Band will perform with special guest Boogie Knights at A Night at the Ballpark at Tempe Diablo Stadium tomorrow, April 8, with proceeds benefitting local charities the Tempe Diablos and Mesa HoHoKams.
Both nonprofit organizations support local causes including education, youth organizations and community initiatives. Since its formation in 2000, the Mesa HoHoKams have donated more than $2.5 million to local charities and kids’ sports organizations. In 2016 alone, the Tempe Diablos donated approximately $500,000 to local charities.
“The Mesa HoHoKams play an important role in funding local youth sports organizations in Mesa and the surrounding areas,” said Mesa HoHoKam Sally Harrison, president and chief executive officer of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce. “The event this Saturday with KC and the Sunshine Band is a great way to highlight the work that the Mesa HoHoKams and the Tempe Diablos do in our communities as well as assist in funding our charitable endeavors.”
KC and the Sunshine Band is a disco funk music group that formed in Florida in 1973. The band is best known for their hit songs “That’s the Way (I Like It),” “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty,” and “I’m Your Boogie Man,” among others. The group’s self-titled second album was released in 1975, went triple platinum and yielded their first U.S. hit, “Get Down Tonight.” In 1979, the group took home a Grammy for Album of the Year with “Saturday Night Fever.” The band’s front man, Harry Casey, has had his music featured at the Super Bowl, World Series, conference championships and other major sporting events.
“With A Night at the Ballpark, we’re bringing friends and families together to enjoy a concert by critically acclaimed musicians, while simultaneously supporting organizations dedicated to improving our local communities,” said Kim Harris, Mesa HoHoKams event chairman. “Every person who buys a ticket is contributing to organizations that help fund youth organizations and charities.”
Both general admission and VIP tickets are available for this event. VIP tickets include a hosted bar throughout the evening, stage front seating on the infield and catered dinner by Outback Steakhouse. General admission tickets are $29.99 and VIP tickets are $200.
