Mesa’s Mountain Vista Medical Center will host the following parenting-kids seminars this month:

New Dads Class
This New Dads class is offered to assist fathers-to-be with newborn care and support of their partners with Dr. Benjamin Ihms. Participants will be given a resource book for new dads. A light snack will be served and the class begins at 10 a.m. on Nov. 5.
Preparing to Become a Sibling
Preparing to Become a Sibling is offered to help children learn what it’s like to become a big brother or big sister. The class is geared toward children ages 2-6, but other ages are welcome. A light snack will be served. The class is taught by local family medicine physicians who are also fathers of multiple children. Each family will receive a children’s book about relating to siblings. Join Dr. Brian Goodman at 10 a.m. on Nov. 5.
Understanding Childhood Milestones
There are many developmental milestones children should experience at different ages. From smiling to first words, crawling to first steps, milestones help parents understand how their child is developing and provide clues to identify issues early. Join Dr. Jocelyn Verdugo as she discusses milestone expectations and answers questions about when to be concerned at 6 p.m. on Nov. 9.
Understanding Childhood Obesity
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity now affects one in six children and adolescents in the United States. Join Dr. Joseph Leaman as he discusses ways to teach children healthy behaviors such as eating well and staying active, while maintaining a positive message and self-esteem at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14.
Measles and Keeping your Family Safe
Recent outbreaks of measles and concerns about the MMR vaccine have some parents concerned about the best way to protect their children. In this seminar, Dr. Albert Hsica will discuss the facts about the disease and answer questions about the vaccine and its risks and benefits at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16.
