Rose Marie Sloan has been named executive director of the Chair Academy, a department of Mesa Community College and the Maricopa County Community College District dedicated to delivering exemplary leadership development.
The Academy has offered world-class, competency-based, leadership development programs for college and university leaders since 1992. Leadership programs are offered at the organizational, state, regional, national and international level.
Sloan replaces the retiring Richard Strand. She brings a wealth of experience, diversity and passion to this global leadership development organization.
With over 20 years of classroom experience, Sloan has served as a master teacher, academic coach and professional development leader. Working with teachers across grade levels, she designed, developed and implemented Common Core Literacy Curriculum focused on student retention and success. She led numerous cohort groups and coordinated workshops focused on lesson study, peer coaching, mentoring and educational leadership.
Sloan believes in the vitality and viability of the Academy and plans to “honor the past, while looking to the future.” She views the Academy as a “premier leadership development organization, developing transformational leaders globally.” Working directly with the Academy team and advisory boards, she is steadfast in the mission and values of the organization: “committed to excellence and continuous improvement, creating innovative, learning environments that promote opportunities to advance academic and administrative leadership.”
Sloan holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from CSU Fullerton, a master’s degree in instructional leadership from National University, an administrative services credential from National University, a professional teaching credential from CSU Fresno, and a cross cultural language and development certificate from UC San Diego. She is an accredited administrator/ principal in Arizona and California, and certified to teach in both states. An alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education, Sloan completed The Art and Practice of Leadership Development program at Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government.
As a strengths-based educator, peer coach and trainer for Everything DiSC Workplace Behavior Styles and Crucial Conversations, Sloan facilitates Academy programs across the United States, Canada and Australia, and continues to consult with professional associations and leaders across the globe. In addition, she leads the Academy’s Editorial Board as managing editor of LEADERSHIP. She has organized and published 14 titles.
