Supporters of Save the Family in Mesa who have sponsored more than 350 families for the holidays delivered hundreds of fully wrapped holiday gifts this week to the Save the Family parking lot for volunteers to deliver to families in Mesa, Chandler and Tempe who might not otherwise be able to celebrate this wonderful time of year.
Family sponsors filled “wish lists” provided by the families. Lists included clothing (with sizes for each family member), household items, books, toys, games and music, among other wishes. Gift cards for groceries also are provided to each family.
Save the Family is expected to serve more than 700 homeless and impoverished families during fiscal year 2017-18, including at Valor on Eighth, a first-of-its kind 50-unit affordable housing community targeting low income and formerly homeless female veterans with children.
Families in Save the Family programs continue to meet goals for establishing income and housing. Last year, nearly 80 percent of homeless families achieved permanent housing within 10 months.
