State badminton: Red Mountain’s Mann, Skyline duo earn medals

Red Mountain’s Abby Mann finished fourth in the Division I badminton state tournament Saturday in singles action.

The fifth-seeded Mann won her first three matches before falling to Perry’s Jillian Lagasca, the eventual state champion.

Mann lost to Corona del Sol’s Brennan Agnew in the match for third place.

Skyline’s Maggie Trias, the No. 2 seed, lost in the quarterfinals to Perry’s Julia Mumme.

Three area doubles team made the state quarterfinals with Skyline’s Ana Munoz and Michaela Daas falling in the semifinals to the Perry duo of Joran Pierson and Jessica Read, who went on to finish as the state runner-ups.

Munoz and Daas went on to finish third.

Red Mountain’s Janae Ziebell and Caitney Smith lost to the Skyline tandem in the quarterfinals, while Westwood’s Taskina Bhuivan and Sierra Madvig lost in the quarters to Pierson and Read.
