State golf: Barzekoff, Bryan in contention for Red Mountain

Red Mountain’s Cameron Barzekoff and Sydney Bryan are in place to make a run at a state title after the first day of the Division I golf tournaments in Tucson.

Barzekoff shot 1-under par Monday at the Omni National on the Catalina Course to sit one shot back of three players at 2-under.

The second and final round is Tuesday on the Sonoran Course at Omni National. Teammate Abraham Elmore is in 10th place at even par and Britton Liming is in 25th place to as the Mountain Lions are in fifth place.

Roc Arnett leads Mountain View in 42nd place at 6-over par to pace the Toros.

Desert Ridge, which failed to qualify as a team, is represented by Gavin Hultman is tied for 35th at 5-over and Noah Allen at 13 over.

On the girls side, Bryan, a Red Mountain freshman, enters the second day, which will be played on the Catalina Course tied for third after shooting even par.

She is two shots off the pace behind Xavier’s Ashley Menne (2 under) and Sandra Day O’Connor’s Michelle Nguyen (1 under).

The Mountain Lions are in fourth place at 21 over behind Xavier (4 over), Pinnacle  (8 over) and Hamilton (15 over).

Desert Ridge is in ninth place at 68 over behind Brooke Beyer at 8-over, Kaitlynn Criswell at 11-over and Rianna Garland at 16-over.

The complete results for the girls tournament were not available.
