The time for offseason workouts, tryouts and passing out of uniforms ended.

This past weekend started the regular season for a couple of sports – golf and badminton – while the rest of the fall sports get going this week.

Most of the area boys golf teams played in the Arizona High School Football Preview at Grand Canyon University Golf Course.

The 24-team event is split into two divisions – Charlie Beljan (Red Mountain PGA player) and Chaz Reavie (Dobson PGA player) – with the more accomplished players/programs in one division and the lesser ones in the other.

Red Mountain finished third in the Beljan Division behind Cactus Shadows and Williams Field.

Mountain View ended up in sixth and Desert Ridge was 10th.

The Mountain Lions’ duo of Cameron Barzekoff and Britton Liming were named all-tournament team after they finished fifth and seventh, respectively, at 3- and 4-over par.

Mountain View’s Zach McDermid, who shot 8-over, was tied for 14th with Abraham Elmore of Red Mountain and Desert Ridge’s Gavin Hultman was 16th at 9-over.

Westwood, which was led by Timmy Johnson at 19-over par for 11th place, was the highest finishing area team in the Reavie Division in sixth place, while Dobson was ninth and Skyline was 10th.

Ian Jones was the Mustangs’ best finisher at 21-over and Matthew Jones a 22-over par total to pace the Coyotes.
